The Basics of LARP Activities at Oakenmist, Sunday only!
We are excited to bring the experience of live action role play, or LARP, to our patrons this summer at Oakenmist. The world of LARP is a rich and exciting place where you can be creative, have fun being active and make friends doing something off-screen in the real world. Oakenmist’s LARP activities will be taking place at the Faire on Sunday, August 17th only. Please read on to find out more about this fun and rewarding hobby.
Age Requirements & Safety
Amtgard and Darkon are two separate gaming groups. We have separate rules and governing bodies. We are able to host together at Oakenmist because we have a large and enthusiastic population of people who play both games. At this event we have agreed that demos and sparring walk ups will use Amtgard rules.
At our regular events, Amtgard sporting activities are reserved for kids and adults aged 14 and older. Darkon sporting activities are reserved for ages 16 and 17 and up. At both group’s events, children under the age of 18 must have a parent present and parents or guardians must sign a waiver for a child wishing to participate. Those 18 and older will complete a waiver for themselves.
At Oakenmist, participants must be a minimum of fourteen (14) years of age or older to participate. Participants under the age of eighteen (18) must have a parent present at all times.
Please know that we enjoy having younger kids or even babies come to our activities, but kids cannot participate in sporting events until they are 14 or older, and even then, kids must have constant parental supervision. We reserve the right to tell any player that they can’t play for the rest of the day if they are not following the rules or being safe.
What to Wear, Equipment & Characters
For this introductory experience with live action role play, we recommend wearing comfortable clothes. Players are welcome to dress in character to better enjoy the game, but you are not required to do so. We also recommend bringing a bottle of water to stay hydrated during the event.
Players may think about and begin to develop a character that they wish to role play for the event ahead of time. This character is a fictional being that exists for the purpose of the game. LARP facilitators at Oakenmist can help explain the rules and expectations around player-characters and LARP activities while you are at the Faire.
Amtgard and Darkon activity facilitators will also have a variety of approved foam weapons to be used at the event. Any foam weapons brought to the event for purposes of sparring must be inspected and approved by the activity facilitators.
We recommend new or inexperienced players come to the Faire without equipment. You will learn what you need as you go.
Please remember that real weapons and fake weapons that appear realistic are not allowed inside the Faire.
